Red Bull Basement empowers student innovators in all areas of study to kickstart their ideas using technology to drive positive change. The aim is to connect and inspire all students to constructively challenge the status quo and make positive impacts, now and for the future. You don’t have to be an entrepreneur or an inventor to join – everyone is invited to the brainstorm. The climax is a Global Final, where finalist teams bring their ideas to life for a pitch to global judges. Along the way are opportunities for networking, expert mentoring and more.

Pourquoi Red Bull Basement ?

Quelle est l'Histoire derrière Red Bull Basement ?

Red Bull Basement was launched in São Paulo, Brazil in 2015 with the aim of supporting and enabling hackers, makers and coders who were using their tech skills to solve social and environmental challenges in their cities. Since then, the initiative has expanded, and at Red Bull Basement Global Workshops held in Berlin, Germany (2018), Toronto, Canada (2019) and an innovative virtual space (2020), participant ideas covered a broad range of themes. The common thread throughout the years has been empowering young innovators and driving change for the better.

Est-ce que je dois postuler en anglais ?

Les vidéos de candidature peuvent être soumises en anglais ou dans une autre langue à condition que les sous-titres en anglais soient inclus. Cependant, il est obligatoire pour tous les étudiants qui postulent de pouvoir parler anglais.

Qui peut postuler à Red Bull Basement ?

Students (18 or over) who are able to speak English and reside in any of the 44 participating countries may apply in teams of one or two students. Within these criteria, students in every field of study are encouraged to submit an idea that they think will make a meaningful impact. Students outside these criteria are welcome to participate by supporting their favorite idea with a shout-out in the Application phase.

Combien de membres de l'équipe peuvent faire partie du projet ?

Applications can be submitted individually or in groups of two students. More team members can collaborate behind the scenes, but only up to two selected representatives will introduce and pitch the idea at the Global Final.

What’s the difference between local events and the Global Final?

Local events are being held on your campus or online to inform and inspire you about Red Bull Basement on a national level. They’re a great place to network, hear from experts and find team members. Meanwhile the Global Final, formerly known as the Global Workshop, is the climax of Red Bull Basement, attended by finalist teams. You don’t have to attend a local event to apply for Red Bull Basement, but you are more than welcome! For registration information, see the Evénements section of this website.

How will ideas be selected for the Global Final?

Eligible uploaded ideas will be considered by a panel of local judges. These judges will select the national finalist to attend the Global Final using the following criteria: feasibility, impact, creativity and shout-outs that were made by the community during the Application phase.

How many shout-outs can I give?

You can give a shout-out to as many ideas as you like, but you can give a shout-out to each particular idea only once every 24 hours.

Qui sont les juges ?

There are two types of judging panels: local judges in the Selection phase, and global judges at the Global Final. Every judging panel will include a variety of experts selected by Red Bull Basement. Experts will be chosen based on their credibility in the innovator space, tech know-how, entrepreneurial experience and connection to the student scene.

The Global Final judges will be announced here on the Red Bull Basement website.

Que se passe-t-il si je suis sélectionné pour représenter mon pays en tant que finaliste ?

The finalists – one team from each participating country – will be publicly announced on . A Red Bull Basement representative will get in contact with each finalist team via the email address they provided in their application. If a finalist team doesn’t confirm their attendance within 48 hours, or doesn’t fulfill the requirements to participate, the runner-up will be invited to the Global Final.

Comment fonctionne la phase de développement ?

Finalist teams will have over five weeks (Nov. 2 through Dec. 13) to get their idea ready for the Global Final. Red Bull Basement will provide basic funds, mentorship sessions with international experts in relevant fields, networking opportunities and a working space.

How do the mentorship sessions work?

Teams will have access to international experts of different backgrounds including Investment, Funding, Hardware/software, Tech, and Engineering. Each team will be able to choose two of these experts for a mentorship meeting based on the needs of the project. You can find mentor profiles in the Global Final section as they become available.

Quand et où se déroule le Workshop Global Red Bull Basement 2021 ?

In 2021, the Global Final will be held in Istanbul, Turkey for the first time. From -, the national finalists will come together to collaborate with mentors and peers, get insights from leading visionaries, and take part in workshops and surprise activities before pitching their ideas to a panel of experts.

Who can take part in the Global Final?

All finalist teams will be invited to the Global Final. That’s one team from each participating country, as selected by the judges. Each finalist team may send a maximum of two participants to the Global Final: the names of both must have been listed on the team’s original Red Bull Basement application, and both must speak English.

Qu'en est-il de la propriété légale de mon idée ?

When students submit an application, they are confirming that their idea belongs to them. Ownership of the idea then remains fully with the student(s) who applied. All mentorships, connections and resources provided by Red Bull Basement come with no strings attached, as outlined in the Termes & Conditions section.

What is the wildcard team?

Besides the 44 national finalists, once again this year our Official Technology Services Partner, NTT, will select and support an additional "wildcard" team to participate in the Development phase and Global Final. With hybrid event services that combine the best of in-person and virtual experiences they educate and inspire, regardless of location, NTT is looking for innovative student ideas that can disrupt the status quo.
